The Village of Tivoli is in the northwest part of the Town of Red Hook.
Bard College is south of the village.

History
The region was part of the Schuyler Patent. The village was formerly known as "Upper Red Hook Landing." An adjacent community, "Madalin," was contiguous to Upper Red Hook Landing. The Village of Tivoli was incorporated in 1872, consolidating both Madalin and Upper Red Hook Landing.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 4.6 km?(1.8 mi?. 4.6 km?(1.8 mi? of it is land and 0.1 km?(0.04 mi? of it (1.68%) is water.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,163 people, 487 households, and 261 families residing in the village. The population density was 255.1/km?(662.1/mi?. There were 531 housing units at an average density of 116.5/km?(302.3/mi?.
There were 487 households out of which 30.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.7% were married couples living together, 9.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 46.4% were non-families. 31.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.0% had someone living independently who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 3.10.
In the village the population was spread out with 23.8% under the age of 18, 16.8% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 20.5% from 45 to 64, and 10.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 84.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 79.4 males.
