The southwest town line, marked by the Delaware River, is the border of Pennsylvania.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 133.9 km?(51.7 mi?. 129.5 km?(50.0 mi? of it is land and 4.4 km?(1.7 mi? of it (3.25%) is water.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 2,404 people, 951 households, and 646 families residing in the town. The population density was 18.6/km?(48.1/mi?. There were 1,558 housing units at an average density of 12.0/km?(31.2/mi?.
There were 951 households out of which 28.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.3% were married couples living together, 7.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.0% were non-families. 28.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.1% had someone living independently who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 2.89.
In the town the population was spread out with 22.3% under the age of 18, 5.4% from 18 to 24, 25.8% from 25 to 44, 29.5% from 45 to 64, and 17.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 99.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.5 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $40,676, and the median income for a family was $50,134.
