Bloomingburg (or Bloomingburgh) was incorporated in 1833. It was the first county seat of Sullivan County, being located in the original county town of Mamakating.
Geography
The village's eastern boundary is the Shawangunk Kill, also the Orange County line at that point.

Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 353 people, 146 households, and 94 families residing in the village. The population density was 425.9/km?(1,113.7/mi?. There were 181 housing units at an average density of 218.4/km?(571.0/mi?.
There were 146 households out of which 35.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.0% were married couples living together, 11.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.6% were non-families. 29.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.3% had someone living independently who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 3.04.
In the village the population was spread out with 27.8% under the age of 18, 9.3% from 18 to 24, 34.8% from 25 to 44, 16.1% from 45 to 64, and 11.9% who were 65 years of age or older.
